La BiblioVirtuelle – a French virtual library
La BiblioVirtuelle is a virtual library with French books created for students by students within the Ottawa Catholic School Board. This innovative project allows students to share their success as writers and readers in the French language. The virtual books were created by students using Google Slides and cover a range of topics including science, social studies, the arts, seasonal themes and more. All OCSB students can access these virtual books by logging into the OCSB Student Portal.
Not only can students practice reading in French, but they can also listen to stories like an audiobook using the Google Read & Write extension. This feature makes La BiblioVirtuelle an excellent resource for parents to use with their children as well.
Inviting all students to submit their work
OCSB students are invited to submit books they created in class through their French as a Second Language (FSL) teacher to be considered for La BiblioVirtuelle. Selected virtual books will be edited and approved before they are published. Books featured in La BiblioVirtuelle will be chosen equitably amongst all OCSB elementary schools.
The books are selected according to the following criteria:
- The book was written by a student currently attending an OCSB school.
- The book conveys language deemed appropriately levelled for K-6 French language learners.
- The book’s writing process was overseen by the FSL teacher.
