We Care for Your Child so They Care About Learning

We know there is a strong correlation between mental health and student achievement. When your child feels welcomed, included, understood and supported, they can better engage with classroom learning. Our staff work together to ensure your child has a safe and strong foundation to learn.

Supporting Well-Being: Building Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Skills for Students

Social and Emotional Life Skills: We recognize that your child’s school plays an important role in helping them learn and develop social and emotional life skills. These skills help them navigate the challenges and opportunities they face in daily life. From Kindergarten to Grade 12, we help your child develop these skills to set them up for success both today and in the future.

Healthy Staff Lead Healthy Schools: We know that our staff need to be well to support your child’s well-being. That’s why we provide our staff with professional learning opportunities and training about topics like anxiety, social-emotional learning, grief, self-care and mental health first-aid. This training helps our staff navigate mental health resources and supports they can access for both themselves and your child.

Investing in Support for Your Child: We’ve made significant investments to ensure we have trained professionals to support the needs of your child’s well-being through prevention and early intervention strategies at all levels in all of our schools. We have mental health workers, psychologists, social workers, speech and language pathologists, addictions counsellors and ABA staff to support all of our schools throughout the OCSB community. If you have concerns about your child’s mental health, contact your school Principal, who can provide you with information, resources and direction to best support your child’s mental health at school.

Supporting Student Attendance and Well-Being

At the OCSB, we are committed to supporting each student’s well-being and academic success. We understand the importance of student attendance and its connection to each individual’s social, emotional and mental development.

We believe school success is deeply rooted in the well-being of our students; when their physical, emotional and social needs are nurtured, they are better positioned to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

How We Make It Happen

How We Make It Happen

At the OCSB, we are committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of our entire community, including students, parents, caregivers, and staff. Mental health challenges can affect anyone at any time, which is why we are proud to introduce the OCSB Well-Being Toolkit: a comprehensive resource designed to offer both immediate support and build long-term resilience.

Packed with practical guides, self-care tips, and tools for early recognition of mental health concerns, the toolkit empowers parents to support their children’s emotional needs, helps students build self-awareness and seek help when needed, and equips staff to create inclusive, wellness-focused environments. Together, we can promote a culture of care and well-being across our diverse community.
