Getting Started, Volunteering With the OCSB
Welcome to the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) Volunteer Program! Here you will find all the necessary steps to become a volunteer at our schools. From obtaining a Vulnerable Sector Check to completing our Volunteer Application and renewing your status annually, we guide you through the process to ensure a smooth and rewarding experience. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact us at Volunteers@ocsb.ca.
Step 1: Get a Vulnerable Sector Check
To volunteer at an OCSB school, you need a Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that can be issued by the Ontario Provincial Police OR Ottawa Police OR the Gatineau Police. The VSC cannot be older than 6 months from the issue date. VSCs are free with a VSC Request Letter from our Volunteer Coordinator. Please send us a message to Volunteers@ocsb.ca, and we will share more details and the Request Letter for you to submit to the Police.
Step 2: Complete Our Volunteer Application
Once you have your Vulnerable Sector Check issued, please complete the OCSB Volunteer Application, which is linked in the same email we sent you along with the Request Letter. Send us the form with an electronic copy of your Vulnerable Sector Check. This typically takes one week to process. You will receive a confirmation email once you’ve been added to our approved list of volunteers.
Step 3: Renew Your Volunteer Status Every Year
To keep volunteering, you will need to complete our annual ‘Offence Declaration Survey’. This survey takes less than a minute to complete and will allow you to keep volunteering without submitting a new Vulnerable Sector Check. You will receive the ‘Offence Declaration Survey’ from the email Ocsb.Surveys@ocsb.ca. Remember to check your spam folder if you don’t find it.
