Privacy and Personal Information

This page outlines how the Ottawa Catholic School Board communicates with the public using social networking sites. Our social media accounts are managed by the Board’s Communications Department. Any other account or page on social networking sites bearing the Ottawa Catholic School Board’s name or likeness is not an official account managed by us. This protocol applies to the following social media accounts:

Availability

We update and monitor our accounts during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. On occasion, we may publish content outside of our normal business hours to report on events during evenings or weekends or report critical information. Any messages or questions we receive outside of our regular business hours will be reviewed at the beginning of the next workday.

Following and sharing

We will “follow” and “like” the accounts of various community members, partners and organizations. Please be advised that being followed or liked by the Ottawa Catholic School Board does not imply endorsement of any kind. We will retweet and share information from other users or accounts that may be of value to our community. Retweets and shares should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the originator or any organization.

Responding to questions

The Ottawa Catholic School Board welcomes comments, suggestions, and questions about our content on social media channels. Unfortunately, we are not able to reply individually to all messages received. All replies and direct messages will be read, and the emerging themes or helpful suggestions will be forwarded to the appropriate parties. Please note that the comments and posts expressed by other users on or directed at our accounts do not reflect the opinions and position of the Ottawa Catholic School Board or its employees. We also reserve the right to refuse, remove or edit content users post on our posts or social channels that do not comply with our commenting guidelines.

Our social media commenting guidelines

The Ottawa Catholic School Board asks that you follow the general rules of respectful civil discourse. You are fully responsible for everything you post, and we would like to remind you that all posted comments are in the public domain. To protect your privacy and the privacy of others, please do not include personal information such as your phone number, home address, or email address in the body of your comment.

We will not tolerate offensive comments to an individual or an organization, rude in tone, or abusive. We do not discriminate against any views, but we reserve the right to refuse, edit or remove any of the following:

  • comments contrary to the principles of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
  • comments that violate any Ottawa Catholic School Board policy
  • racist, hateful, defamatory, abusive, or obscene messages
  • solicitations, advertisements, or spam
  • comments that encourage or suggest illegal activity or cyberbullying
  • messages where the sender is not the author (nor the copyright holder, if applicable) or posted anonymously or by robot accounts

In short, please be respectful and make sure your comments are relevant. If you have any questions about our commenting and service standards or how we apply them, please contact connect@ocsb.ca. You participate at your own risk, taking personal responsibility for your comments, your username and any information provided.
