Kindergarten Families: Get Ready for a Great First Day
That first day of Kindergarten is one family remembers. New classrooms, new friends, new routines and, yes, probably a few butterflies for children and parents alike.
To help our youngest learners feel comfortable and confident, OCSB uses a gradual entry schedule. Be sure to review your school’s Kindergarten and Extended Day Program (EDP) schedules before school begins so you know what to expect.

Stay Informed and Connected
Staying connected with your child’s school is one of the best ways to support their success. The resources below will help you stay informed throughout the school year. We also encourage you to visit your school website regularly for important announcements, reminders, and upcoming events.
All OCSB schools use SchoolMessenger to send important updates and notifications to families by phone and email.
Create your account and customize your communication preferences so you receive information the way that works best for you.
SafeArrival: Reporting Students’ Absences ›
With SafeArrival, there’s no need to call the school and leave a message. Instead, you can quickly and securely report your child’s absence.
The Parent Portal is your central hub for information related to your child’s education.
Once your account is activated, you can:
- View report cards, attendance records, and class schedules
- Complete and submit important school forms
- Update student and family information as needed
At the beginning of each school year, please complete the required forms, including:
- Consent for Use and Disclosure of Information
- Off-Site Activities Permission
- Responsible Use of Technology
Remember to update the Student Verification form whenever your contact information changes.
Student transportation services are provided by the Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA).
Download the OSTA app or visit OSTA website to receive updates about bus routes, delays, and cancellations.
If your child has a medical condition, allergy, or ongoing health concern, please submit the required health information before the school year begins.
Sometimes students see or experience something they’re not comfortable discussing face-to-face. OCSB Connect gives students in Grades 7–12 a secure and anonymous way to report bullying, safety concerns or other issues directly to school staff. Take a few minutes to show your child where to find it, so they know there’s always a way to reach out when they need help.
