Black students inspired to share their voices

As Black History Month comes to an end, we hope to continue the conversations throughout the year as we discuss the tremendous impact Black Canadians have had and will continue to have on the world around us. With the support of the OCSB Black Educators Network, the OCSB Equity Team, leaders, employees and educators throughout our board, we are excited to see more Black students discover their God-given potential and share their gifts with the world.

In November, students throughout the Ottawa Catholic School Board participated in the second annual Black Student Forum. This virtual event provides Black students across the school board with the opportunity to meet and give voice to their collective experiences and efforts within their school communities. Meet two bright students involved in their high school’s Black Student Association and listen to them share their experiences of being involved in this meaningful event.

We hope to continue providing students and educators with enriching experiences like the Black Student Forum. These initiatives reflect the extraordinary work to support Equity at the OCSB. We know there is still much work to be done, and we are thankful for our students who will help us continue progressing this vital work.
