Students from St. Matthew High School gathered at Divine Infant Parish for two special Masses celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Yvan Mathieu, bringing their school community together in faith, prayer and reflection.
The church was filled with the energy of students arriving together, followed by a sense of calm as they settled into the celebrations. Their attentiveness and participation helped create a welcoming and prayerful atmosphere.
It was a meaningful opportunity for students to step away from their regular school routines, reflect on their faith and celebrate the connections that bring their Catholic school community together.
Finding God in Everyday Life
Bishop Mathieu connected with students through humour and familiar examples, making his message relevant to their lives.
He spoke about the many things competing for their attention, from schoolwork and sports to busy schedules and other commitments. Through these everyday examples, he encouraged students to make room for God, even when life feels full.
His message was simple and relatable. Faith is not something separate from our daily experiences. It is part of how we treat others, the choices we make and the relationships we build.
Bishop Mathieu also encouraged students to reach out to one another, strengthen their relationship with God and continue growing together as a community of faith.
A Message of Gratitude
Gratitude was another important part of Bishop Mathieu’s message.
He invited students to think about the people and experiences that enrich their lives, including the everyday blessings that can sometimes go unnoticed.
His words encouraged students to recognize the many reasons they have to be thankful, even amid busy days.
Celebrating as a School Community
The St. Matthew choir, led by school chaplain Charity Corbitt, brought beautiful music to both Masses, adding to the spirit of prayer and celebration.
Across the two celebrations, every student had the opportunity to gather with classmates and staff, share in the Eucharist and experience the importance of faith and community in a special way.
The Masses reflected an important part of Catholic education. Alongside classroom learning, our schools create opportunities for students to nurture their faith, build connections and develop a deeper appreciation for the people and blessings in their lives.
For the St. Matthew community, the celebrations offered a message worth carrying forward: make time for God, care for one another and appreciate the blessings found in everyday life.
