Holy Trinity’s Terry Fox Tradition Continues to Inspire

There are some school traditions that become so deeply woven into a community that they stop feeling like events and start feeling like part of who a school is.

At Holy Trinity Catholic High School, Terry Fox Day is one of those traditions.

This year, the school community raised an incredible $42,186.04 for cancer research, earning Holy Trinity the distinction of being the second-highest fundraising high school in Ontario for the Terry Fox Foundation in 2025.

That number is impressive, but what matters even more is the spirit behind it. Students, staff, and families came together with a shared goal, proving once again that Terry Fox Day is more than a fundraiser at Holy Trinity. It is a tradition grounded in compassion, leadership, and the belief that young people can make a real difference in the lives of others.

With the 2026 Terry Fox Run scheduled for Sunday, September 20, the Holy Trinity community is already looking ahead to another year of honouring Terry’s dream and supporting cancer research.

More Than a Fundraiser

At Holy Trinity, Terry Fox Day is not simply a date on the calendar. It is one of the school’s defining traditions. Students and staff spend months preparing for the event, building excitement throughout the school year. By the time Terry Fox Day arrives, the energy inside Holy Trinity is impossible to miss. There is school spirit, teamwork, and a shared understanding that everyone has a role to play. It is community in action.

Carrying Terry’s Legacy Forward

This recognition comes during a historic year for the Terry Fox Foundation, which recently surpassed an extraordinary milestone of $1 billion raised for cancer research across Canada. Holy Trinity’s contribution is now part of that legacy. For many students, Terry Fox is someone they first learned about in school. Through experiences like this, his story becomes personal and real. In the process, students learn what leadership, compassion, and perseverance look like beyond the classroom.

Building Bridges Through Community

Our three-year Spiritual Theme is Open Doors, Build Bridges, Nourish New Beginnings. This year, we are focusing on Build Bridges.

Holy Trinity’s Terry Fox efforts are a powerful example of what that looks like in action.

  • They build bridges between generations, connecting today’s students to Terry Fox’s legacy of courage, hope, and perseverance.
  • They build bridges between schools and communities, bringing students, staff, families, and supporters together around a shared purpose.
  • They build bridges between compassion and action, reminding students that even small acts, when done together, can create meaningful change.

The school’s commitment also reflects our Strategic Commitments to Be Community, Be Well, and Be Innovative, showing what is possible when young people come together to support something bigger than themselves.

A Proud Moment for the OCSB

Holy Trinity was not the only OCSB school recognized among Ontario’s top fundraisers. Immaculata High School placed fourth among Ontario high schools, while St. Pius X High School also earned a place among the province’s top fundraising schools. At the elementary level, Frank Ryan Catholic Intermediate School was recognized as one of Ontario’s leading elementary school fundraisers. Together, these efforts speak to the generosity, leadership, and compassion found across OCSB schools every day.

Congratulations to the entire Holy Trinity community and all participating OCSB schools on this incredible achievement and thank you for continuing to carry Terry’s dream forward.
