Starting with the incoming grade 9 class in September 2024, it will be mandatory for students to complete at least one Technological Education credit in grade 9 or 10. The Ontario government has recently announced this new requirement to ensure that students receive early exposure and access to learning opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, including skilled trades.
The Technological Education credit offers students a chance to gain valuable hands-on experience and an early insight into the skilled trades. This credit builds on the solid foundation the elementary Science and Technology curriculum provides.
Technology Education courses encompass a diverse range of fields, such as Construction, Transportation, Manufacturing, Computer Technology, and Communications. These courses are selected based on the availability of resources and staff at each school. Students will be presented with the list of course options during the course selection process, accessible through their myBlueprint account. For any further information, feel free to contact your school’s guidance department.
