The Ottawa Catholic School Board wants to get to know its students better. We are committed to equity, inclusion and ensuring everyone feels welcome in our school community. This Ministry of Education initiative is voluntary and confidential and designed to help us better understand student identity.
We will conduct our first-ever Student Census in May 2022 and look forward to learning more as you tell us about yourself!
Get your questions answered in the Student Census FAQ
On May 9, 2022, we held a public FAQ session with students, parents, educators and OCSB employees. We answered the top 10 questions our community had. With any new initiative, we know parents always have questions, and we want to get you those answers. We have put together an FAQ document for the public, but you can still submit your questions using this Google form.

What kinds of questions are asked in the Student Census?
If they choose to do so, parents complete the survey on behalf of their child in Kindergarten to Grade 8. While students in Grades 9 to 12 can complete the survey themselves. Each question is designed to help the board learn more about our students. We hope you will Tell Us About… your background, experiences, and what we can do better.
The ultimate goal is to make your school experience the best possible. We can do that by identifying potential barriers or gaps and determining how to eliminate discriminatory biases in our classes and schools as outlined in the Ontario Education Equity Action Plan. Together we can Be Community, Be Well and Be Innovative by identifying opportunities to help all students succeed.
What will the OCSB do with this information?
We will use the information collected from the Student Census to get a better understanding of who is in our schools. Knowing this will help us improve student experiences. The information gathered will also be used to improve decision-making and enhance student success at all levels.
