Ava James Sidoli is a name you’re going to want to write down because she’s changing the world with her compassion, kindness and innovative action. You may have heard about this inspiring grade ten Holy Trinity Catholic High School student because her name has popped up in headlines for big her heart and fundraising savvy over the last two years.
Award-winning community changer
Since 2019, Ava has raised over $50,000 dollars through various fundraisers for the Ottawa Food Bank and the Canadian Cancer Society. Last year, she was presented with the 2020 Award for Outstanding Youth Philanthropist from the Association of Fundraising Philanthropists for raising thousands of dollars and pounds of food for local food banks.
While the global pandemic slowed the world down, Ava hasn’t missed a beat. She came up with creative ways to continue to help those in need through the power of social media. She made headlines again when she raised over $10,000 for the Ottawa Food Bank with her “OnlyTakesOne” social media campaign for her 15th birthday in March.
More recently, Ava raised over $10,000 to supply 200 backpacks full of school supplies and ten Chromebooks for CHEO and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ottawa. This project was a beautiful collaboration between Ava, her mom, and St. Francis Xavier educator, Lisa Sigouin.
Why does she do it?
Ava’s compassion is inspired by her own experiences. As a young student, Ava noticed that a lot of the kids at her school didn’t have school supplies or lunches. “I just wanted to give back and help kids that don’t have as much as they should,” said Ava. She continues to raise funds for people in need hoping that one more person jumps on board.
What’s next for Ava?
While her resumé to date is impressive, we can only imagine what her bright future holds. Keep an eye out for this remarkable young woman who is already putting together plans for another Ottawa Food Bank fundraiser in time for the Christmas season.
