Year-end Message from the OCSB Director of Education

You made it through a school year like no other. So take a moment to congratulate yourself and breathe. As we end the school year 2020-2021, we do not know what September will bring, but we know we will be here for you and your family.

In his year-end video message to parents and students, Director of Education Thomas D’Amico reflects on student and staff achievements as we all faced the challenges of this past school year.

Highlights include:

  • Our Board invested over 15 million dollars in HVAC and other health and safety measures.
  • Staff focused on meeting the social and emotional needs of our students in addition to their academic needs.
  • Our Board’s charitable foundation, the Catholic Education Foundation of Ottawa (CEFO), through donations from our staff and retirees, helped more than 1200 families with over $350,000 to fund food, medicine, short-term bills, and other needs.
  • If you and your child decide in late August that you aren’t quite ready to be back full-time, please let your school Principal know, and they’ll work out a schedule that you and your child are comfortable with.
  • In early August, we expect to receive more information from the Ministry of Education regarding any health and safety restrictions that will need to continue when students return to school in September. Once we know this information, we’ll share it with all of our families.
