The Ottawa Catholic School Board approved a change to the school boundaries for St. James and St. Anne Schools, which will come into effect in September 2022.
This change impacts families in the Bridlewood neighbourhood of Kanata South.
What changed and why
To reduce overcrowding pressures at St. Anne School, in 2017, we started giving families who live in between St. James and St. Anne the option to attend St. James School even though they were in the St. Anne boundary. We called this the “option area.”
We are now building a six-classroom addition at St. James School that is expected to be complete for September 2022. When the project is complete, families living in the current “option area” west of Stonehaven Drive will attend St. James School.
How will this impact students at St. James and St. Anne schools?
Starting in September 2022, families who live in the current “option area” west of Stonehaven Drive will be directed to St. James School. If you live east of Stonehaven Drive, you will continue to have the option to attend either St Anne School or St James School.
Students enrolled at St. Anne School who live in the “option area” west of Stonehaven Drive:
- will be relocated to St. James School in September 2022 if they are in JK to Grade 4 during the 2021-2022 school year.
- can choose to stay at St Anne School for the 2022-2023 school year if they are in Grade 5 during the 2021-2022 school year. There will be no sibling provisions.
Thank you for your feedback!
We gathered public feedback through emails and a virtual public meeting during the spring of 2021 to provide a final recommendation to the Board. Thanks to your feedback, we were able to approve a plan to reduce overcrowding pressures at St Anne and result in a better balance of enrolment between the two schools. No portable classrooms are expected to be needed at either school in five years.
