Michelle McGarry, Principal of Elementary Virtual Program, wants to welcome all of the new families who are transitioning into the world of virtual learning this month.
When do classes begin?
Your child officially joins the Elementary Virtual Program on November 16, but your virtual classes will not start until Wednesday, November 18 (grades 1-6) or November 23 (Kindergarten). Your first two days of school will be independent orientation days for you and your child to prepare for virtual learning at home.
Checklist for parents
We’ve created a Virtual Learning Checklist to support you and your child as you transition into the virtual learning world. On November 16 and 17, please go through the checklist with your child. You will need to know how to access learning platforms like Google Meet and Hapara Workspace when virtual classes begin on November 18.
Parent Information Sessions
To help support our virtual families, we are hosting optional parent information sessions (live on YouTube) to help answer your questions about the learning platforms and more. If you cannot attend the information session, it will be available afterwards to watch on-demand.
If your child took the school bus or van service to get to school, your home school has contacted the Ottawa School Transportation Authority (OSTA) on your behalf, so you don’t need to do anything to let them know you no longer need transportation.
If your child was assigned an OC Transpo Presto card, it will be cancelled at the end of November, but they can continue using the card until November 30, 2020.
Thank you for your patience
Finally, we know this has been an unusual year and we’d like to thank you for your patience. We look forward to supporting your child and their teachers in their virtual learning journey. The virtual program is a novel experience for all of us, and together we will ensure it is the best possible Catholic learning experience for your child.
