This cross Canada music competition included students from every province and territory. The judges chose ten finalists in each of the 11 categories.

The prestigious national music award is accompanied by $3,000 in musical instruments and a plaque. St. Marguerite d’Youville is the only school in Ottawa to take the top prize. The goal of the competition is to encourage music education, spotlight Canada’s fantastic music teachers and; showcase the importance of music in a well-rounded education.

St. Marguerite d’Youville claims top honours in CBC’s Canadian Music Class Challenge.

St. Marguerite d’Youville, Principal Jeannie Armstrong, says, “I am so immensely proud of Music Teacher, Jo-Ann Morris and our students!  The choir includes 100 primary students who are a reflection of the inclusionary model we embrace in the OCSB.” Ms. Morris’s dedication to music education benefits our students and our greater school community.

St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic school’s motto is “We Care, We Share, We Dare.” The proud Principal added our students were living their school motto. The spirit of kindness, cooperation and encouragement were on display in every choir practice.

The choir is getting used to national attention. The choir members sang for Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau last year at a multi-faith event on Parliament Hill. They will also be taping a performance with Canadian Indigenous Band, Twin Flames, in January 2020.
