New Fernbank Catholic High School – Temporary Accommodation Plan Consultation Process

On-going residential developments in Kanata West, the Village of Richmond, the Village of Stittsville, and the Fernbank Community will place significant pressure on classroom requirements at Holy Trinity High School and Sacred Heart High School. On April 11, 2023, the OCSB approved a public consultation process to help balance the school population at both high schools in the coming years.

The proposed plan will also establish a preliminary attendance boundary for a future Fernbank high school and temporarily accommodate its students at All Saints High School. The work being done ahead of the opening of this new school is an essential part of our school board’s plan to support the needs of students and their families living in this part of the city.

Making Room at Holy Trinity and Sacred Heart High School

To meet classroom requirements for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year, Holy Trinity and Sacred Heart high school will require the placement of additional portable classrooms. These portables will bring the schools to maximum capacity. Any further requirements for additional portables will not be possible without adversely impacting sports fields and play areas.

Proposed Preliminary Attendance Boundary Changes for New Fernbank High School

The attendance boundaries of Sacred Heart, Holy Trinity, and All Saints High Schools will be revised for the 2024-2025 school year.

High school students currently living in the new Fernbank High School proposed attendance boundary would attend All Saints High School until the new school opens. Students from grades 7-12 attending Holy Trinity High School or Sacred Heart High School would be provided with a one-time option to remain at those schools.

Elementary feeder schools to the new Fernbank high school will include St. Martin de Porres Catholic Elementary School and the new St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School (scheduled to open in September 2023).
