There is something special about seeing an entire school gathered in one place.
Students and staff at St. Peter High School filled the football field for a school-wide outdoor Mass, creating an opportunity to step away from the regular school day for prayer and reflection.
With the sun shining and student musicians playing, the celebration invited everyone to reflect on the year ahead and the role faith can play in meeting both its opportunities and its challenges.
Finding Courage in New Beginnings
Fr. Waldemar spoke to students about beginning something new with courage and faith.
New beginnings can be exciting, but they can also bring uncertainty. He reminded students that they do not face those moments alone. God is with them and guiding them through whatever comes next.
His message connected naturally with the OCSB Spiritual Theme, We Are Called to Nourish New Beginnings, inviting students to consider how they approach change, challenges and new opportunities.
What It Means to Be a Knight
Fr. Waldemar also connected his message to St. Peter’s Knights’ identity.
He spoke about courage, strength, service and humility, reminding students that courage does not mean being without fear. It can mean moving forward when something is difficult, helping someone who needs it and trusting in God when the path ahead is not entirely clear.
It gave students a chance to think about what being a Knight means beyond the school’s name and how those values can shape how they treat others.
Students Make It Happen
Students played an important role in the celebration.
A student band, led by Geoff Dignam, provided the opening and closing music. Members of the student tech team arrived early to prepare the field and stage and make sure everything was ready.
Principal Dana Power also welcomed students and shared her hopes for a positive year ahead.
Students were not simply attending the Mass. They helped make it happen.
Faith Lived at St. Peter
A football field is not where you might normally expect to celebrate Mass, and perhaps that was part of what made the morning memorable.
For a little while, classes and schedules gave way to music, prayer and reflection. Hundreds of students and staff were together, sharing their faith and considering what they want to bring to the year ahead.
It was a fitting way for St. Peter to Nourish New Beginnings, grounded in faith and surrounded by the people who make up their school community.
