Ready to Represent OCSB Students
There were two new voices around the OCSB Board table Tuesday night, and they didn’t take long to join the conversation.
Lydia Assani from Notre Dame High School and Justin-Peter Ammar from Holy Trinity High School officially began their roles as the OCSB’s 2026–2027 Student Trustees.
At their first Board meeting, both Lydia and Justin were active participants, asking questions, sharing their perspectives and offering opinions on the issues being discussed.
It was a strong start to a year in which they will represent the voices and experiences of students from across the OCSB.
Bringing the Student Perspective to the Table
Student Trustees have an important role at the OCSB. They bring something to Board discussions that no one else around the table can: the perspective of the students who experience our schools every day.
For Lydia and Justin, that means listening to students, learning what matters to them and bringing those perspectives into conversations at the Board table.
Both have said they hope to be a strong student voice while also learning more about how a school board works, how decisions are made and, most importantly, how those decisions affect student life.
Their first meeting showed they are ready to do both.
Leadership, Learning and a New Beginning
Serving as a Student Trustee is also an opportunity to learn.
Over the coming year, Lydia and Justin will see firsthand the work that happens behind the scenes to support nearly 54,000 students across the OCSB. They will learn more about Board governance, take part in important discussions and connect with students across our schools.
And while they will be doing plenty of learning, we know the adults around the Board table will be learning from them too.
That is the value of student voice. When students are part of the conversation, they help us see our schools, our decisions and our priorities through a different lens.
