Celebrating International Education Week 2025 at the Ottawa Catholic School Board

Every November, schools and communities world-wide come together to celebrate International Education Week (IEW)—a time to recognize the impact of international education in fostering global understanding and lifelong friendships.

At the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB), this week is an opportunity to honour our international students and the unique cultures, perspectives, and talents they bring to our schools and communities. Their presence not only enriches our classrooms but also fosters a deeper understanding of global citizenship, compassion, and inclusion.

Building Connections Through Culture and Community

OCSB international students share their heritage in ways that make our schools come alive through food, festivals, music, and storytelling. Each cultural exchange opens a door to understanding and helps Canadian students see the world through a new lens.

In turn, our international students experience the warmth of Canadian culture through bowling nights, cooking classes, city tours, and laughter-filled orientation days. Over the past year, the OCSB International Student Program hosted 10 events designed to help students form real friendships and lasting memories.

One shining example of these meaningful connections is Tega, an international student from Nigeria who truly embraced the spirit of community during her time at the OCSB. Her enthusiasm, leadership, and community involvement at Sacred Heart High School earned her the Youth Achievement Award from the Global Community Alliance—an inspiring reminder of how one student’s light can brighten an entire community.

Promoting Wellness and Connection Year-Round

The OCSB International Student Program is deeply committed to the well-being of its students. Through pre-arrival guidance sessions, orientation days, student activities, newsletters, social media updates, and personal celebrations such as birthday greetings, departure certificates, and souvenirs recognizing each student’s journey, our focus remains on keeping students informed, engaged, and supported throughout their OCSB experience.

Join Us in Celebrating International Education Week 2025!

From November 17 – 21, 2025, we invite our OCSB community to celebrate International Education Week by learning something new about another culture, connecting with an international student, or simply reflecting on how diversity enriches our schools.
