As we journey together under our “We are Called to Build Bridges” spiritual theme, October invites us to focus on Understanding. This is our second step in a deeper, year-long invitation: to listen, to learn, and to grow as a faith community.
At the OCSB, we believe true understanding begins with listening – listening with open hearts, setting aside judgments, and welcoming each person’s story into our shared journey of faith. Every conversation is an opportunity to be changed by new perspectives and to walk more faithfully together as a Catholic community.

Five Ways to Live Understanding This Month
- Begin Where You Are
You don’t need a perfect plan. Often the most meaningful bridges are built through small acts of trust, forgiveness, and empathy. Even a single step matters. - Relationships First, Always
Let us prioritize presence over productivity. Being fully present, listening with care, strengthens our community bonds. - Listen Before You Leap
Before taking action, pause and pay attention to what is truly needed. The Holy Spirit is already at work in our lives; our role is to notice and respond with care, patience, and thoughtful attention. - Remember Your “Why”
In the rush of life, we can lose sight of purpose.Taking a moment to remember why we care, serve, and walk alongside one another helps keep us grounded in our calling and motivated by the example of Jesus. - Don’t Forget the Joy
Building bridges can be challenging, but it is also full of joy. Laughter, smiles, and unity are clear signs of the Spirit at work among us. When in doubt, follow the smiles, they often point the way.
