June at OCSB: A Heart Open to All

As the school year winds down and the summer sun begins to shine, June offers us something deeper than countdowns and calendars. It gives us a moment to pause, reflect, and return to the heart of what matters.

This month, OCSB schools will reflect on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a symbol of compassion, love, and healing. For many, it’s a central devotion in our Catholic faith, but its message is for everyone.

It’s a reminder that our hearts, like Christ’s, are called to be open—open to others, open to healing, and open to change.

Opening Doors Through Prayer and Connection

Throughout June, students and staff will mark the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart in meaningful ways for their communities. Some may gather for Mass or prayer. Others may pause for reflection or create a space for quiet gratitude in the classroom.

These moments are small, but they matter. They’re a way to Open Doors—to grace, stillness, and one another.

Building Bridges Through Learning and Creativity

Teachers and students will explore the message of the Sacred Heart in ways that make sense for them—through discussion, art, writing, and digital storytelling. The focus isn’t on memorizing doctrine. It’s on building bridges of understanding, using the language of compassion and creativity.

Faith is expressed, not imposed. Everyone is welcome to engage, reflect, and bring their own experience to the table.

Nourishing New Beginnings With Compassion in Action

At its core, the Sacred Heart calls us to act with love. Across the board, schools will take that to heart, launching kindness initiatives, service projects, and small daily gestures that uplift others.

This is how we live our Spiritual Theme:
Open Doors. Build Bridges. Nourish New Beginnings.
Not as an add-on, but as a way of being.

A Heart for Our Whole Community

Whether you’re deeply familiar with this devotion or hearing about it for the first time, there’s space for you in this reflection. You don’t need all the answers or share the same beliefs.

You just need a heart willing to be open to love, kindness, and something bigger than yourself.
