November usually brings grey skies, chilly mornings and the search for missing mittens. Not this week! With temperatures feeling more like summer, our students have been making the most of the beautiful weather. This week’s #ocsbFridayFeeling has a little bit of everything.
The warm weather was a welcome opportunity to take learning outdoors. Students explored autumn colours en français, while our youngest learners used their sense of sight to discover the world around them. Even the wet pavement became an opportunity for creativity, with colourful chalk drawings adding a little brightness to the schoolyard.
Inside, things were just as busy. In gym class, students worked together to keep a giant ‘Omnikin’ ball from touching the floor. Literacy activities had students racing to build words and figuring out which words didn’t belong. At the secondary level, biology students put their science skills to work during a simulated urinalysis lab. There was no shortage of learning, laughter or teamwork.
Students also spent time learning about different traditions and reflecting on the importance of remembrance. A Día de los Muertos fashion show and dance party gave Spanish-language learners an opportunity to celebrate loved ones and learn more about this meaningful tradition. Other students explored the significance of the poppy and reflected on the message La paix commence avec moi, or Peace begins with me. And while November has only just begun, rehearsals are already underway for an upcoming Black History Month celebration.
Our Spiritual Theme, Nourish New Beginnings, encourages us to recognize the opportunities each day brings. Whether students were learning outdoors, trying something new in the gym, exploring cultural traditions or reflecting on peace, there was plenty to celebrate across our schools this week.
November is off to a pretty good start!
