Friday Feeling | Fall-ing into Discovery

A little fresh air can change how we see things. A pile of leaves becomes a place to play, autumn colours spark artistic inspiration, and a walk outdoors becomes a chance to practise French. This week’s #ocsbFridayFeeling celebrates the discoveries waiting for us when we make room for curiosity, creativity and connection.

Autumn offered plenty of inspiration as students took their learning outside. Nature scavenger hunts en français, outdoor art inspired by the Group of Seven and gym among the fallen leaves brought a seasonal twist to familiar lessons. Our youngest learners carried a story about a cozy nest outdoors, counting the birds as they joined and exploring how numbers come together. Sometimes, a new setting is all it takes to spark a new idea.

That spirit of discovery continued indoors, where felt circles and paint connected geometry with Kandinsky-inspired art. Students stacked, arranged and created, exploring the place where mathematical thinking meets imagination. In chemistry, learners investigated reactions and calculated percentage yield, putting their observations and understanding to work.

We also paused to appreciate the people who make these everyday discoveries possible. Celebrations for early childhood educators and school bus drivers reminded us how much care surrounds our students, from the journey to school to the encouragement that helps a young learner try something new. Their contributions are woven into the moments that make school a welcoming place to learn and grow.

As we Nourish New Beginnings, autumn reminds us that a familiar world can still offer something new. A different perspective, a shared discovery or a heartfelt thank-you can brighten an ordinary day. Here’s to staying curious and noticing the colour, care and possibility all around us. 💚🍂
