Autumn doesn’t transform the landscape all at once. It announces itself in small ways: a single leaf changing colour, a cooler morning, or an acorn underfoot. This week’s #ocsbFridayFeeling celebrates change in much the same way: through small actions that deepen understanding, strengthen community and grow into something meaningful.
During Truth and Reconciliation Week, students wrote letters to residential school survivors, taking time to listen, reflect and honour their experiences. Their words remind us that reconciliation begins with a willingness to listen and grows through the choices we make afterward. Care took other forms too. One class watched its ‘kindness jar’ fill through hard work, positive behaviour and generosity toward others. Elsewhere, students recycled paper and cardboard, showing how an everyday habit can become an act of care for our common community space.
Curiosity carried learning outdoors and in. An “enchanted” forest invited young explorers to slow down and look more closely, while others welcomed the fall equinox through learning en français. And today, Franco-Ontarian Day offered another opportunity to celebrate the French language, Franco-Ontarian culture and the vibrant Francophone community. Apple season inspired students to gather natural objects for outdoor counting tools, compare quantities of crabapples and discover how literacy, art and mathematics can grow from the world around them.
As we Nourish New Beginnings, we’re reminded that a season changes leaf by leaf and a community grows choice by choice. A thoughtful letter, a kind gesture, a recycled piece of paper or a question pursued with curiosity may seem small on its own, but together, those moments can create purposeful change. 🧡🍂🌱
