Friday Feeling | A World Built with Heart

This week’s #ocsbFridayFeeling is about the world our students are building. Not someday, not eventually. Right now, with their hands, their hearts, and everything they are learning along the way.

A group of junior artists partnered with TD Place to paint cement construction barriers at Lansdowne, turning infrastructure into art and leaving their mark on the city. That’s not just a school project. It’s a contribution to our community.

Elsewhere, students planted milkweed donated by a neighbouring school, added decorative painted rocks to their garden, and celebrated Clean Air Day with their hands in the soil. Across our schools, classrooms are learning about the lifecycle of plants, connecting the science of growth to the act of tending something with care.

Curiosity was doing a lot of the building, too. Secondary students used micro:bits, tiny controllers designed to make computer science fun, to build and investigate solar panels, connecting technology and sustainability in the process. In a Kindergarten classroom, snap circuits and light tables filled the room with the particular energy of minds fully at work.

Building a better world also means showing up for others. Students raised money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, welcomed firefighters to learn about fire safety and the people who keep our communities safe, and explored bike safety as summer approaches. In one classroom, music became the medium, with students making their own instruments and dancing out their big feelings to the joyful rhythm.

The world our students are building is thoughtful, creative, sustainable, and full of heart. In so many ways, what we saw this year reflected the Spiritual Theme, We Are Called to Build Bridges: connecting communities, celebrating diversity, and leaving something meaningful behind. This week, our students answered that call beautifully. 🎨🌱⚡🚲🎶✨
