Stronger Together at The Strength Collective

A Different Kind of Classroom

The music was loud, the weights were moving, and there was no standing on the sidelines. Grade 10, 11, and 12 fitness students from Holy Trinity Catholic High School walked into The Strength Collective and got to work. Led by teachers Eric Shefski and Luciano Jamieson, they stepped into a space where effort is expected, encouragement is constant, and no one trains alone. It didn’t take long to see this wasn’t just a change of scenery. Learning felt different here because it was happening together.

When Learning Becomes Movement

The shift in setting brought everything into focus. Concepts like movement, form, and safety moved off the page and into real time. Students adjusted, observed, and tried again. They learned by doing and by paying attention to each other. Confidence didn’t come from getting it right the first time. It came from sticking with it.

From Tornadoes to Mentor

At the centre of it all was Holy Trinity graduate and gym owner Kenny Caceros, and you could feel it the moment he started working with the students. This wasn’t just someone opening a door to his gym. This was a former Tornado showing up, giving back, and setting the tone. As he coached, corrected, and encouraged, the connection was immediate. Students weren’t just watching, they were seeing what’s possible when you stick with something and build it into your life. It made the path ahead feel real, not far off.

You Could Feel the Support

The sense of community in the room was immediate. Students worked side by side, spotting each other, sharing equipment, and offering encouragement without being asked. It wasn’t forced. It just happened. That’s what building community looks like. It shows up in the way people take care of each other and want to see each other succeed.

Well-Being in Action

This wasn’t about pushing limits for the sake of it. Students learned to listen to their bodies, pace themselves, and check in with one another. They started to see that well-being isn’t something you talk about once. It’s something you practice. In this space, it showed up in real choices and real awareness.

Beyond the Four Walls

Stepping outside the school setting helped students see how their learning connects beyond the classroom. It made the experience feel real and relevant. When students engage with their community like this, learning sticks. It becomes something they carry with them.

A Door Opened, A Connection Built

By welcoming Holy Trinity students into his gym, Kenny created more than a workout. He created a connection between school and community, between where students are and where they’re going. That’s how bridges are built. It starts with an open door and grows from there.
