What a week to be part of the OCSB community.
The theme for this year’s Catholic Education Week was “Pilgrims of Hope: On the Path to Holiness.” It’s a reminder that our schools are places where faith and community come to life every single day. And this week, our students and educators showed us exactly what that looks like.
A pilgrim is someone committed to a journey, even when the path is challenging. That spirit was everywhere. Students gathered for Mass at local parishes, rooting themselves in the faith that guides our community. Others opened the week with a school-wide Praying in Colour, creating a moment of stillness and reflection before the busy days ahead. Kindergarteners visited their sit-spots in nature, planted seeds, and quietly connected with God’s creation after reading Walking Together.
Being a Pilgrim of Hope also means caring for others. Students auctioned their own beautifully crafted artwork to support a local animal shelter. Schools raised funds for international education charities. Some students were even rewarded with the chance to be ‘teachers for a day’, a joyful reminder that we all have something to give.
And hope took many other forms, too. Soil was explored. Maps were read in a local park. A garden of flowers marked one school’s 100th year of faith and learning. In each of these moments, big and small, our students were walking a path together.
That is what Catholic education is. It does not stop at the classroom door. It lives in our actions, our relationships, and our shared commitment to becoming the best version of ourselves, with God’s help.
