Stations of the Cross: A Journey Through Faith, Told by St. Benedict Students

A Quiet Beginning

The gym at St. Benedict School was still. Lights were dimmed, voices softened, and along the walls, 14 sacred moments were waiting to be experienced. As students entered, they instinctively slowed down. This was not a typical school activity. It felt different. It felt important.

Each station told a part of Jesus’ journey. Artwork, written reflections, photos, and student-created videos invited those walking through to pause, listen, and reflect. In that space, the gym became something more. It became a place of prayer, learning, and connection.

A School Comes Together

This experience was built by the entire St. Benedict School community. Every class, from the youngest learners to the oldest students, took responsibility for one of the 14 Stations of the Cross.

Teachers guided the learning, but the thinking and creativity came from the students. Together, they explored the meaning of their station and decided how best to bring it to life. In many cases, classes worked together, sharing ideas and building something meaningful.

There was a strong sense that this was not about individual classrooms. It was about the whole school walking this journey side by side, building connections across grades and experiences.

Faith Through Creativity

What students created was thoughtful and powerful.

Stations were brought to life through paintings, sculptures, written reflections, and carefully crafted displays. At each station, iPads played recorded reflections in the voices of students, adding a personal and moving layer to the experience.

Students were not just learning about the Stations of the Cross. They were interpreting them, developing their own understanding, and sharing it with others. Their work reflected empathy, creativity, and a deep respect for the story they were telling.

Walking the Journey

Earlier in the week, classes visited the gym to experience each station. They moved quietly from one to the next, listening to the reflections and taking time to think.

There was no rush. Students gave each station the attention it deserved. You could see it in the way they paused, in the way they listened, and in the way they carried themselves through the space.

It was a shared experience that brought a sense of calm and reflection to the entire school.

Bringing It to Life

The final presentation brought everything together in a powerful way.

Selected students became living statues, standing in stillness as they represented each station. Their presence added a new depth to the experience, drawing the audience into each moment of the journey.

The event concluded with a moving performance by the school choir. Their voices filled the gym and brought the experience to a close in a way that stayed with everyone in the room.

More Than a Lesson

This Stations of the Cross journey was more than a classroom activity. It was a moment where St. Benedict School came together in faith, creativity, and reflection.

Students were given the opportunity to think deeply, express themselves, and connect with one another in a meaningful way. They were not just learning about the story. They were stepping into it, together.

It is experiences like this that remind us what it means to be a community.
