High school is exciting. It is also, at times, overwhelming.
New courses. New faces. Bigger decisions. And for parents, a quiet wondering: Is my child on the right path?
At the Ottawa Catholic School Board, we understand that high school is not just about credits. It is about confidence. Belonging. Discovering strengths. Building a future.
You do not have to figure it out alone. Here is where to start when questions come up.
Finding Academic and Pathway Support at Your School
Your teachers and guidance counselors are your main support team at school. They’re the best people to talk to whenever you have questions or need direction.
Choosing or Changing Courses
Not sure what to take or want to change a course? Your guidance counsellor can help you plan your pathway. You can also review options in myBlueprint.
Timetables
If you have a scheduling issue, your counsellor can walk you through solutions, including eLearning options.
Finding Your Strengths
Your counsellor can help you explore your interests and skills. Once you’re at your home school, you’ll be assigned a counsellor who can meet with you one‑on‑one.
Classwork Support
Your teachers are your first stop for academic help. Many are available before or after school, or during lunch. Some schools also offer peer support. Ask your teacher or visit the guidance office to learn more.
When in doubt, ask a teacher or your guidance counsellor. They’re here to help you succeed!
Supporting Your Well‑Being
Students learn best when they feel safe, included, and valued. Our schools follow the OCSB’s Safe, Inclusive, and Accepting Schools policy to ensure every student feels they belong.
If you ever need to talk to someone, your guidance office is a great place to start. Many schools also offer student-led clubs that promote inclusion and belonging, and the OCSBConnect form allows students to anonymously share concerns about bullying.
