This week’s #ocsbFridayFeeling is about joyful, connected learning rooted in real lives. In recent weeks, we have reflected on Deep Learning, belonging, and the power of community. This week brought those ideas to life through music, movement, science, and shared experiences that stayed with us long after the bell rang.
Across our schools, classrooms, and gyms, rhythm and dance echoed as students explored street dance styles, learned their cultural significance, and expressed themselves through choreography and freestyle. Elsewhere, students bundled up for snow tubing, discovering that wellness can look like laughter, fresh air, and warm mittens. Whether through sport, play, or teamwork, students showed us how movement builds confidence, resilience, and connection.
Learning also reached outward, connecting students to the wider world. From exploring Mars with robots alongside a planetary scientist to testing models in wind tunnels at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum, curiosity led the way. Even our youngest learners stepped confidently into the role of scientists, asking questions, making observations, and testing ideas with care and wonder.
This week also made space for learning rooted in justice, history, and lived experience. As Black History Month began, students listened to powerful stories of leadership, perseverance, and pride. A guest speaker shared a groundbreaking career in policing, opening conversations about courage and change, while music and dance invited students to celebrate Black culture together, joyfully and openly.
Again and again, this week reminded us that learning is not confined to desks or worksheets. It happens when students dance, question, build, listen, play, and cheer one another on. It happens when joy and meaning meet. That feeling is what we carry into the weekend, grateful for the many ways our students continue to show us who they are becoming.
