Building Bridges Through Remembrance
Sacred Heart Catholic High School students are making national headlines through Operation Remembrance – a heartfelt project that invites students across Canada to honour veterans and reflect on courage, service, and sacrifice. Their inspiring video, 11 Days of Remembrance 2025 – Day 7 – 80th ANNIVERSARY: WWII, John Fauquier pays tribute to Air Commodore John Fauquier, one of Canada’s most decorated military leaders. The video premieres nationwide on November 7 and will also be featured at the Fairmont Château Laurier on Remembrance Day.
Their work reminds us that learning comes alive when compassion meets creativity. By sharing stories that matter, students are building bridges across generations while deepening their understanding of what it means to live faith in action.
A Tribute to Courage
Through research, collaboration, and storytelling, students discovered that courage doesn’t belong only to the pages of history. It lives in everyday choices to stand up for others, act with kindness, and care for our community.
Their video honouring Air Commodore John Fauquier, DSO, DFC, brings this message to life and shows how remembrance can inspire action, empathy, and gratitude in today’s world.
Learning That Inspires Gratitude
“Learning about Air Commodore Fauquier helped us understand the personal side of courage, what it means to step forward for others,” shared one Sacred Heart student. “We wanted our video to show that remembrance isn’t just about the past. It’s about gratitude and responsibility in the present.”
That reflection captures what it means to Be Well to find strength and empathy through understanding. Their project reminds us that remembrance is not a passive act, but an act of connection that nurtures both the heart and the community.
Faith, Innovation, and Connection
The Canadian School Boards Association, Canadian Accredited Independent Schools, the Royal Canadian Legion, and Veterans Affairs Canada support Operation Remembrance. Through this partnership, students can use innovation and creativity to honour those who served, transforming remembrance into a living lesson that connects faith, history, and community.
By bringing Air Commodore Fauquier’s story to life, Sacred Heart students demonstrated how the OCSB’s call to Be Community, Be Well, Be Innovative can take shape in meaningful ways.
Building Bridges and Nourishing New Beginnings
We are proud of the Sacred Heart students who used their voices and talents to honour a Canadian hero, showcasing what it means to live with faith and gratitude. Their project reminds us that when students learn through service and storytelling, they are not just remembering the past but shaping the future.
This is what it looks like to Open Doors, Build Bridges, and Nourish New Beginnings.
