Mental Health Awareness Week takes place this year from May 5–11. Mental health is a vital part of our overall well-being—it shapes how we think, feel, and connect with others, and it influences our daily lives, relationships, and decisions.
5 Ways to Promote Positive Mental Health
- Connect: Spend time with loved ones and strengthen your relationships.
- Be Active: Engage in physical activity to boost both your body and mind.
- Take Notice: Be mindful of your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings.
- Learn: Try something new to stay curious, engaged, and mentally stimulated.
- Give: Help others or contribute to your community to build a sense of purpose and connection.
Daily Mental Health and Well-Being Challenge
To help celebrate the week, the OCSB Mental Health Team has created a list of daily challenges that encourage positive mental health and well-being. These activities can be done in classrooms, as a school, with your family, or on your own.
- Movement Monday: Get your body moving—dance, walk, play a game, or try some yoga stretches.
- Tech-Free Tuesday: Take a break from screens and have a conversation with someone new.
- Wondering Wednesday: Explore a new interest or research something you’ve been curious about.
- Thoughtful Thursday: Perform a kind or thoughtful gesture for someone else.
- Fun Friday: Do something that makes you laugh and brings out your playful side.
A Toolkit for All
At the OCSB, we are committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of our entire community, including students, parents, caregivers, and staff. Mental health challenges can affect anyone at any time, which is why we are proud to introduce the OCSB Well-Being Toolkit: a comprehensive resource designed to offer both immediate support and build long-term resilience.
Packed with practical guides, self-care tips, and tools for early recognition of mental health concerns, the toolkit empowers parents to support their children’s emotional needs, helps students build self-awareness and seek help when needed, and equips staff to create inclusive, wellness-focused environments. Together, we can promote a culture of care and well-being across our diverse community.
