Ottawa Catholic School Board FSL Educational Consultant (K-6) Amélie Roy Wins 2023 Robert McConnell Award

Amélie Roy is the 2023 Robert McConnell Award winner.  The award acknowledges and honours the enormous contribution to developing French Second Language teaching resources internationally in Ontario, Canada.

Amélie’s professional mission is to ensure Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) students can and confidently use French effectively in their daily lives. As an elementary FSL Educational Consultant, she ensures that schools have the resources to engage all students in meaningful and authentic French activities.

Nicola Benton, OCSB Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services, said, “It’s great to see Amélie’s contributions to the development of FSL teaching resources recognized by the Ontario Modern Language Teachers’ Association. Her leadership in French as a Second Language at the OCSB is felt throughout the system! As a Deep Learning Leader, she collaborates with her colleagues and encourages creative student-focus activities that students remember well after class is finished.”

Amélie, known for celebrating her colleagues’ and students’ success easier than her own, said, “I feel blessed to have been surrounded by inspiring and supportive colleagues since the beginning of my professional journey at the OCSB.”

Director of Education Tom D’Amico informed Trustees of Amélie’s prestigious recognition at March 28, 2023, Board Meeting telling Trustees that this was another example of how OCSB educators are making a difference in the lives of our students.
