Sacred Heart Teacher wins Award for Excellence in Religious Education

Sacred Heart High School, French teacher Jessica Thomson is the inaugural winner of the Seeds of Hope New Teacher Award for Excellence in Religious and Family Life Education. This prestigious award from the Catholic Association of Religious and Family Life Educators of Ontario (CARFLEO) is presented to an educator who has been in education for five years or less.

OCSB Religious Education and Family Life Coordinator Mark Siolek nominated Mme Thomson for her character, creative approach to engaging students, and impact on Catholic education through her school and the global community. “Jessica is a tremendous advocate of service, charity and social justice. She inspires her school community to live out their baptismal discipleship promises fully,” said Mark Siolek.

This award includes a donation to Mme Thomson’s charity of choice. CARFLEO will donate in Mme Tomson’s name to KidSport– an organization that provides grants to children to participate in organized sports instead of having to watch from the sidelines.

We look forward to following Mme Thomson’s bright career as she continues to impact the lives of her students and colleagues in the years ahead. Mme Thomson is already known to many as an innovator and creator of engaging resources in Religious Education. “She is always willing to share what she has designed,” added Siolek. Mme Thomson is a shining example of the quality Catholic educators at the OCSB. They not only inspire Deep Learning in the classroom but live it out in the way they teach and collaborate with colleagues.
