Bethany Snider has only been teaching at the John Bosco Achievement Centre (JBAC) for a little more than a year but has already made a huge impact on the lives of students. The JBAC engages street-involved youth in academic studies outside a traditional classroom setting through Operation Come Home.
Bethany was recently awarded the 2020 Heart and Spirit Award from Youturn Youth Support Services. This award is given out annually by Youturn staff at their Annual General Meeting to an outside professional who works closely with Youturn clients. As a teacher at Operation Come Home, Bethany works closely with Youturn staff and clients to help students reach their academic goals and has brought many innovative learning opportunities to students in her short time there.
Her nominator, Dean Gervais, noted “Bethany has brought in many new programs for our youth to access like paid co-op, esthetics class, and a dual credit program with Algonquin College to name a few… her positive attitude and outlook is refreshing and it transfers to everyone around her.”
