The OCSB family is growing! We received $25 million to fund two new Catholic Elementary Schools. The new schools will serve the growing communities of Fernbank (Kanata/Stittsville) and Barrhaven South.
Chair of the Ottawa Catholic School Board Mark D. Mullan says, “These two projects are the result of Trustee advocacy, community input, ongoing support from the Ministry of Education and our Planning and Facilities Department staff whose tireless work helped to secure the funding for these needed capital projects.”
This funding represents over a thousand new pupil spaces and will provide for close to eighty more licenced childcare spots between the two new schools. OCSB Vice-Chair, and Zone 2 Trustee, Sandra Moore, who represents Kanata North and South, says, ” I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the provincial government, The Honourable Merrilee Fullerton, MPP Goldie Ghamari and the Ministry of Education. A new school will allow us to address population growth in the Fernbank area of the city.” The Catholic Elementary School will be built on a site located at the southwest corner of Defense Street and Cope Drive.
The new Barrhaven South Catholic Elementary School will be located in South Nepean in the northern portion of the Half Moon Bay Community, at a site to be purchased. Zone 4 Trustee, Spencer Warren, who represents the area, says, “I would like to thank all of the members of our community – students, parents, trustees and local politicians especially The Honourable Lisa MacLeod – who advocated for the funding of this new school. We will continue to provide our students with a welcoming, environmentally friendly and innovative Catholic learning environment.”
The two new schools are scheduled to open in September 2023.
