As we head into Thanksgiving weekend, it’s a timely opportunity to pause and thank our spiritual leaders for the wisdom, encouragement and support they provide us! Our local Christian radio station CHRI Radio is honouring Priests and Pastors throughout October for #ClergyAppreciationMonth, so we wanted to jump on board and share that we are #ocsbThankful as well.
At the Ottawa Catholic School Board, we have the blessing of collaborating with local Parishes and the Archdiocese for several spiritually enriching opportunities. Can you think of creative ways to appreciate your Priest or Pastor as a family, classroom, or school?
Here are three ideas to get you started:
- Nominate them for the chance to win a $100 gift card to The Keg and a Menchies Frozen Yogurt Cake from CHRI Radio.
- Write a poem, draw a picture, write a letter and send it to your local Parish or church.
- Record a short video expressing your thanks and share it on social media using #ClergyAppreciationMonth and #ocsbThankful.
Clergy Appreciation Month began in 1992 when a group of pastors and church leaders wanted to come up with a way to honour those who serve in ministry. Their idea was born in response to the Apostle Paul’s words: “Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in preaching and teaching” (1 Timothy 5:17).
