This week’s #ocsbFridayFeeling is about student voice. Not just the ones we hear in classrooms and hallways, but all the ways students are learning to express who they are and how they see the world.
At times, that voice is easy to see. A student stands up, shares an idea, and finds the confidence to be heard. It is more than presentation skills. It is learning to trust your thoughts and believe they matter.
In other moments, it is quieter, but just as meaningful. You see it in the pages of a book, in the rhythm of reading, and in the steady work of building understanding one step at a time.
Outdoors, that voice shows up as curiosity. Students ask questions, notice details, and make connections with the world around them. In science, that curiosity turns into discovery, where wondering leads to real learning.
This week is also a reminder that voice is not just about speaking. It is about listening too. Through Indigenous learning, students are introduced to different perspectives and ways of knowing that help build understanding and respect.
And during this Lenten season, there is space for reflection. Students are thinking about who they are and who they are called to be. Sometimes the most important voice is the one we hear within ourselves.
Across our schools, students are learning not only what to say, but when to listen and why it matters. Because when students find their voice, they begin to shape the world around them. ✨🌱📚
