At the OCSB, we believe God calls us to remember how deeply connected we are – to one another, to all of creation, and to God.
This month’s spiritual focus is Building Bridges of Solidarity and Kinship. These two words remind us that we belong to one another and share a common dignity as children of God.
Kinship invites us to recognize our shared humanity and to act with care for all of God’s creation.
Solidarity moves us away from “us and them” and reminds us of a deeper truth – there is only “us.” When one part of our community is hurting, we are all affected.
When solidarity and kinship shape our classrooms and communities, barriers of fear, exclusion, and division begin to fall away. Each time we choose connection over separation, we expand our circle of care.
Jesus shows us how to live “for” and “with” others. Kinship and solidarity reflect God’s dream for the world – a world where we live as siblings, caring for one another and for our common home.
As we move into February, we turn our attention to Building Bridges Across Generations. When we share stories, listen to lived experience, and learn from one another, we honour both the wisdom of our elders and the fresh perspectives of the young.
A Question to Carry With You
As we journey through February, we invite our families and school communities to reflect:
- What can I learn from someone older or younger than me?
- How can I be a source of hope and light to them?
Prayer Intention for February
We pray for open hearts to the wisdom of our elders and the voices of the young. May we build connections that honour all generations and deepen our shared journey of faith.
Amen.
Living the Theme Together
We invite everyone in the OCSB community to bring these themes to life at school and at home. Share your bridge-building moments with us on social media using #ocsbBuildsBridges. You can revisit last month’s reflection on Action here: Building Bridges of Faith this Advent – December Reflection.
