Friday Feeling | Voices for the Earth

This week’s #ocsbFridayFeeling is rooted in the earth, quite literally. With Earth Day at the centre of the week, our schools were alive with curiosity, care, and a deep sense of purpose.

Students planted seeds in hydroponic systems, investigated soil, and learned about watersheds and the living world of the Ottawa River. They turned recycled materials into sculptures of the animals that share this land with us. They hosted exhibits and invited others to stop, listen, and celebrate what they had discovered. This is environmental education at its best, not a lesson to be memorized, but a relationship to be built.

And that relationship starts with wonder. When students learn that the earth is something to be understood, cared for, and spoken up for, they begin to see themselves differently too. Not just as observers, but as advocates.

The rest of the week carried its own kind of energy. There was music and movement, the joy of bodies in motion and rhythm shared. There was the satisfaction of a problem worked through carefully, and the pride of a project nearing completion after weeks of hard work. These moments matter too, woven into the fabric of a full and vibrant week.

Earth Day is a single day on the calendar, but what our students are building is so much larger than that. It is a habit of caring, a way of paying attention, and a commitment to the world they will one day inherit. This week, they showed us they are ready. 🌍🌱✨
