You could feel the excitement across the OCSB community as the Catholic Education Foundation of Ottawa (CEFO), in partnership with the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB), announced the winner of this year’s 50|50 draw. Thanks to the incredible support of our school communities, parishes, families, and friends, the draw raised an impressive $58,035. $29,017 went to our winner, May, a proud St. Brigid School parent. The remaining funds will go directly toward supporting OCSB students and families who need a little extra help.
While one ticket holder walked away with the prize, the real impact of this draw reaches far beyond a single name.
More Than a Fundraiser
The 50|50 draw is about more than numbers. It’s a reflection of what happens when a community chooses compassion.
Every ticket purchased, every shared post, and every conversation about the raffle contributed to something meaningful: ensuring that students facing difficult circumstances receive the support they need to succeed. The collective generosity of our community continues to be a powerful force for good.
Meeting Urgent Needs Across Our Schools
For over 25 years, CEFO has worked quietly but tirelessly behind the scenes to support students and families in crisis. In Ottawa alone, more than 15,000 children rely on food banks each month. Many families face barriers related to food security, stable housing, transportation, and access to essential supplies.
Through your support, CEFO helps bridge those gaps, providing access to necessities such as food, clothing, and emergency assistance so that students can focus on learning and belonging.
One of the foundation’s most impactful programs, the Emergency Response Fund, offers immediate help to families navigating sudden challenges such as illness, job loss, or unexpected financial strain. Last year alone, more than $255,000 was distributed to 856 families, covering urgent needs like groceries, utilities, and transportation.
Investing in Long-Term Success
In addition to emergency relief, CEFO is committed to helping students thrive over the long term.
Over the past decade, more than $2 million has been directed to OCSB schools to strengthen literacy, numeracy, mental health, and overall well-being. Programs such as Bridging the Language Gap and Knitting for Mental Health and Wellness offer students opportunities to build confidence, connection, and resilience.
And for many children, summer brings a special highlight: last year, 230 students attended camp thanks to CEFO support, experiencing joy, friendship, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Gratitude That Goes a Long Way
To everyone who participated in this year’s 50|50 draw: thank you. Your generosity directly impacts students across our board and reinforces the spirit of care that defines our community.
Because of you, CEFO can continue delivering life-changing support to families who need it most.
Congratulations again to May, and heartfelt thanks to all who made this year’s draw such a success.
Together, we’re building bridges to brighter futures.
