At this time of year, music becomes a language of togetherness. It opens doors to one another and celebrates the many cultures and traditions that make our community vibrant. Across Ottawa, OCSB students are stepping forward to share that spirit through two special concerts that highlight both their talent and their commitment to building connections.
‘Sharing the Spirit’ at Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica
On Friday, December 5, 2025, the historic Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica will come alive with European carols and Christmas music as choirs from across the city gather for a collaborative concert hosted by the Delegation of the European Union to Canada. The Ottawa Catholic School Board Choir will join community groups such as the Choir of the Church of Saint Bartholomew, the Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus, Chorale Lyrica, and the Ottawa Four Seasons Brass Ensemble. Guest performances by the Romanian Canadian Incognito Choir and sopranos Kathryn Greer Close and Martha Patterson will add even more beauty to the evening.
Seeing students sing alongside musicians from diverse backgrounds reminds us how naturally young people build bridges. Their voices rise together as one community, creating music that brings people closer and helps everyone feel welcome.
‘A Harvest of Harmony’ at Brookfield High School
The celebrations continue on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Brookfield High School with A Harvest of Harmony, the school’s Winter Holiday Concert. The OCSB Chamber Choir will join the Brookfield Band and the Ottawa Wind Ensemble for an afternoon of music filled with joy and creativity.
This event reaches beyond the stage. All net proceeds will support the Brookfield Community Food Cupboard. Students are learning that their gifts can brighten the lives of others, which in turn strengthens the well-being of the entire community and reflects the caring spirit we nurture in our schools.
Nurturing New Beginnings Through the Arts
Whether in a cathedral or a school auditorium, these concerts reveal the heart of Catholic education. Students discover that their voices can open doors to new friendships and shared experiences. They learn that collaboration and generosity help to nourish new beginnings for themselves and for others.
Through music, they invite us all to see how community is built. One song at a time. One shared moment at a time. One hopeful new beginning at a time.
