Building Bridges Through Song

The Ottawa Police Chorus (OPC) knows that music has the power to connect hearts and strengthen communities. At this year’s Ottawa Police Gala, several teachers from the Ottawa Catholic School Board joined the OPC’s inspiring evening of song and service.

OCSB Voices in Harmony

The Ottawa Catholic School Board was proudly represented by four dedicated teachers who performed with the Ottawa Police Chorus:

  • Carla MacGregor – St. Mark High School
  • Sarah Woods – St. Peter High School
  • Yitao Sun – St. Joseph High School
  • William Kelly – St. Paul High School

We also recognize Mayada Jamous, another OCSB employee and OPC member, whose on-going involvement continues to make a difference even when she could not attend the Gala performance.

Voices That Build Bridges

Through their volunteer work with the Ottawa Police Chorus, these educators embody what it means to be a part of a community. They bring the same compassion and collaboration that they model in their classrooms to the broader community. Their voices join with others to build bridges across cultures, experiences, and generations, showing how music can unite us in understanding and goodwill.

About the Ottawa Police Chorus

Founded in 1972 under the vision of Chief Leo Séguin, the Ottawa Police Chorus is a four-part harmony ensemble comprising active and retired members of the Ottawa Police Service, as well as civilian volunteers from across the city. The OPC performs at civic ceremonies, community events, and charitable fundraisers, sharing music as a universal language of hope and connection. The chorus’s mission is to promote community policing and enhance the image of police officers through music, reflecting the multicultural community it serves.

The Chorus continues to represent the Ottawa Police Service with pride, bringing people together through music and fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community they serve.

Faith in Action Through Music

By giving their time and talent to the Chorus, these teachers show that faith and service can take many forms—even through song. Their participation reflects our OCSB Spiritual Theme, Open Doors, Build Bridges, Nourish New Beginnings. In choosing to volunteer, they remind us that every act of kindness, collaboration, and creativity helps to build bridges that make our communities stronger.
