Message from the Director on the Passing of Pope Francis

Dear OCSB Community,

It is with heavy hearts that we learned of Pope Francis’s passing on Easter Monday. In this moment of profound loss for our Catholic school community, we are called to unite in faith, hope, and love.

Pope Francis’s legacy of compassion, humility, and service resonates deeply with our OCSB mission. His teachings on caring for our common home and fostering unity perfectly reflect our commitment to the Spiritual Theme: Open Doors, Build Bridges, Nourish New Beginnings.

In the coming days, our schools will host prayer services, providing spaces for reflection and support. I encourage our students, staff, and families to lean on each other and our faith during this time.

This moment also presents an opportunity for Deep Learning. We’ll integrate thoughtful discussions about Pope Francis’s impact into our curriculum, fostering critical thinking and compassion among our students. Information on our Religious and Family Life Education—The Ottawa Catholic School Board can be found on our website.

As we navigate this historic time for the Catholic Church, we draw strength from our shared faith and continue to live out Pope Francis’s call to be instruments of God’s love in the world.

Together in faith,

Thomas D’Amico
Director of Education
Ottawa Catholic School Board
