Honouring Young Leaders: The Access to Sport is a Human Right Award

The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) Student Anti-Racism Association at the University of Ottawa is proud to introduce the Access to Sport is a Human Right Award—an initiative recognizing Black, Indigenous, and Racialized youth in the National Capital Region who are using sport to create change.

This award highlights high school students (ages 15-17) who are not only passionate about sport but also about making it more inclusive and accessible. Through leadership, advocacy, and community involvement, these young changemakers are proving that sport is more than just competition—it’s a powerful force for equity and connection.

Access to sport shouldn’t be a privilege—it’s a right, and these students are making sure no one is left behind.

All nominees will receive an emailed invitation to the event, but the public is also welcome to attend. In addition to recognizing outstanding student achievements, the event will feature distinguished local speakers who will share powerful insights on perseverance, discipline, and success.

Why This Matters

This isn’t just an awards ceremony—it’s a celebration of resilience, opportunity, and the power of community. By shining a light on these young leaders, we’re not just recognizing their work—we’re making sure their voices are heard, their impact is seen, and their message carries forward. Because access to sport should never be a barrier.

Let’s lift them up, cheer them on, and celebrate the next generation of changemakers together!
