Welcome Back to a New School Year at OCSB!

Dear OCSB Families,

Welcome to a new school year at the Ottawa Catholic School Board! Whether your child is returning or just beginning their educational journey with us, we’re excited to have you as part of our community. Our schools are ready to welcome students with open doors, safe spaces, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Introducing Our New Spiritual Theme: “Open Doors, Build Bridges, Nourish New Beginnings”

This year, we’re embracing a new three-year Spiritual Theme: “Open Doors, Build Bridges, Nourish New Beginnings.” We’ll start by focusing on “opening doors”—creating opportunities for growth, connection, and exploration. Together, we’ll encourage our students to approach new experiences with confidence and hope.

Critical Thinking in the Age of AI: Deep Learning at OCSB

At OCSB, Deep Learning is more than just a concept; it’s the cornerstone of our approach to education. In an era where technology and AI are increasingly prevalent, we are committed to fostering critical thinking skills that empower our students to analyze, question, and innovate. We see AI as a valuable tool to enhance learning, and we are dedicated to ensuring that technology complements—rather than replaces—the thoughtful, human-centred education that Deep Learning provides.

Harmonizing Technology with Outdoor and Indigenous Learning Through a Deep Learning Approach

As part of our on-going commitment to integrating AI into education, we are enhancing our use of artificial intelligence while expanding investments in outdoor learning spaces. These environments enable students to connect with nature, promoting well-being alongside academic growth. Moreover, we’re enriching our curriculum by incorporating Indigenous perspectives and traditions, deepening our students’ understanding, and fostering a more inclusive learning experience. I invite you to watch the video below to explore how we will balance AI advancements at the OCSB.

New Cell Phone Guidelines

This year, we’re implementing new cell phone guidelines mandated by the Ministry of Education to create a more focused and effective learning environment. A detailed letter outlining these changes was sent to you on August 27. If you haven’t read it yet, please check your email for important information about how we’ll be managing cell phone use in our schools.

Celebrating Growth and New Beginnings

We are excited to announce the opening of two new schools this fall, St. Gianna in Riverside South and St. Veronica in Findlay Creek. We are growing and thriving together, with over 50,000 students joining the OCSB family. Our dedicated staff have worked tirelessly over the summer to ensure every school has a safe, clean, and engaging environment for your children.

Thank You

Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to a school year filled with new beginnings, exciting opportunities, and shared successes.

Best regards,
Tom D’Amico
