The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) is now accepting registration for Summer School 2022. Our Reach Ahead course offerings are open to all learners from all school boards.

Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until classes are full. The deadline to register is June 30, 2022. All classes are conditional upon sufficient enrolment and are subject to cancellation or transfer to an alternate location.

Students currently attending a high school must have their summer school registration approved by their home school.

You can register online (below).

Reach Ahead Courses

Reach Ahead Courses will be offered in two different formats. Students may choose one of the following:

1) Blended Course: The course will be taught through a combination of both synchronous (in-person teaching) and online asynchronous (independent learning) instruction. Class time for in-person learning will be 8:30 am – 12:30 pm, plus virtual drop-in hours from 2:40 pm – 4:00 pm. Students will be expected to work asynchronously/independently at least 2 hours per day, in addition to their in-person time.

*Should the need arise to move to virtual learning, the in-person component of the course will move to an online format.

2) E-Learning Course: The course is taught in an asynchronous format (flexible independent online learning) instruction. Students will need access to a computer device and reliable internet. Students who require a computer device will need to make arrangements with their home school.

Both course formats are teacher-supported and enable students to obtain a full credit towards their high school diploma. Students will need access to a computer device and reliable internet throughout the day. Students who require a computer device will need to make arrangements with their home school. Students can only enrol in one Reach Ahead Course.

Reach Ahead Courses will run from July 4 to July 25, 2022, from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm.

The tuition fee for International Students is payable online through SchoolCash.

Credit Recovery Achievement Centre

The Credit Recovery Achievement Centre program enables students to recover one full course credit and it is recommended that students have obtained a minimum standing of 30% in the original course. Students must be recommended by their home school Credit Recovery Team to participate in summer credit recovery. Courses may be recovered in Grade 9 and 10. This program is offered to OCSB students only and will offer flexibility to participate in-person or online, upon consultation with the Credit Recovery Teacher, and runs from July 5 to July 20, 2022, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm.

Skills Builder Programs (English Numeracy & Literacy Support or Core French Literacy Support)

The Skills Builder programs are support programs for students who are presently achieving at level 2 or lower. In the English Numeracy & Literacy Skills Builder program, students will receive encouragement, confidence building and daily supports to improve reading, writing, numeracy, study, and organizational skills. In the Core French Literacy Support program, students will receive intensive French language skill development with a focus on reading, writing and speaking. These programs are offered to OCSB students only and organized for students currently in Grades 6, 7 or 8. It will run in-person from July 4 to July 25, 2022, 8:30 am – 12:00 pm.

Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM), Cooperative Education

(For current Grade 11 SHSM students)

Cooperative Education allows students to earn secondary school credits while completing work placements in the community. This particular program is being offered to OCSB students in Grade 11, registered in a Specialist High Skills Major program, and provides timetable flexibility for those students unable to complete the two required Cooperative Education credits during the regular school year. Students can complete one or two credits linked to (in order of preference) a SHSM major credit course, a SHSM ‘other required’ course, or Creating Opportunities Through Co-op (DCO30). Deadline to register is April 29, 2022.

Please note that space is limited and participation is not guaranteed. For more information, view the Specialist High Skills Major, Cooperative Education flyer.
