Getting started Volunteering with the OCSB
Before you get started, it’s important to contact volunteers@ocsb.ca. When you get in contact with us here, we can ensure you are on the right track with the appropriate steps.
Step 1: Get a vulnerable sector check
To volunteer at an OCSB school, you need a current Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) from Ottawa Police. The VSC cannot be older than 6 months. VSCs are free with a VSC request letter from our Volunteer Coordinator. Please request the letter from volunteers@ocsb.ca.
Step 2: Complete our volunteer application
Complete the online application you received with the request letter. Then, include an electronic copy of your Vulnerable Sector Check. This typically takes one week to process. Once you’ve been added to our approved list of volunteers you will receive an email confirmation.
Step 3: Renew your volunteer status every year
To keep volunteering, you will need to complete our annual offence declaration survey. This survey takes less than a minute to complete and will allow you to keep volunteering without submitting a new Vulnerable Sector Check. You will receive the offence declaration from ocsb.surveys@ocsb.ca. Check your spam folder if you don’t receive it!
Questions?
If you have questions about the offence declaration survey or would like to opt-out of the volunteer program, please email volunteers@ocsb.ca.
