Catholic Education Week – May 5 to 10, 2019
Catholic Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the uniqueness of our Catholic schools. More than 600,000 students in over 1,500 Catholic schools across Ontario take part in this special week to celebrate the distinctive contribution their schools make in the lives of our students and the community. Our community participates in planned special activities at all grade levels and in all schools. Everyone is welcome to join us in events taking place throughout the week.
Tuesday, May 7 – Mass and Award Ceremony
The OCSB community will gather for a Celebration of the Eucharist on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 7:30 pm for our Catholic Education Week Mass at the Notre Dame Cathedral in downtown Ottawa, 385 Sussex Drive. Archbishop Terrence Prendergast will preside. The collection will be directed to the Canadian Catholic School Trustees’ Association’s (CCSTA) Charitable foundation (Toonies for Tuition) which provides tuition assistance to Catholic students in provinces that have limited or no public funding for Catholic schools.
After the mass, our annual Director of Education Commendation Awards will be presented to 38 well-deserving OCSB employees who have been recognized as role models. We are truly fortunate to have these amazing people who are devoted to service in Catholic Education.
Friday, May 10 – Choral Celebrations
To close out Catholic Education Week, choirs from several OCSB schools gather each year to participate in our annual Choral Celebrations held at St. Paul High School and Notre Dame High Schools. This is a special opportunity for our talented students to showcase their choir skills in front of their peers and parents. There are two scheduled Choral Celebrations this year, as follows:
St. Paul High School, 2675 Draper Avenue
Friday, May 10, from 12:00 noon to 1:45 pm
Notre Dame High School, 710 Broadview Avenue
