Vaccine for youth 12 and up

Have you heard the great news? A COVID-19 vaccine is now available for Ontario youth 12 and up! Here is some information you might find helpful.

Are vaccines safe for my child?

Yes. Vaccines are safe, effective and the best way to protect your child, your family, and your community from COVID-19. Vaccines will help students and families to safely resume normal activities as soon as possible.

How and when can my child receive the vaccine?

If your child lives in Ontario and is between the ages of 12 to 17, you can book an appointment for their first dose of the vaccine now. Call 1-833-943-3900 to book an appointment. If you do not have a valid health card but are eligible for a vaccine, please call Ottawa Public Health at 613-691-5505 to book an appointment.

What vaccine will my child receive and how much does it cost?

Health Canada has authorized the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for youth aged 12 and up. Your child will receive two doses of the vaccine. It is free– there is no charge to receive either dose of the vaccine.

My child is turning 12, can they still get the vaccine?

Your child must be 12 or older on the day of your appointment to receive the vaccine. If your child is 11 years old right now but will be 12 years old on the day of the appointment, Ottawa Public Health advises they can receive the vaccine.

Where can I learn more about the vaccine?

To help your family make an informed decision, here are a number of resources from Ottawa Public Health and the Government of Ontario. The information below is based on expert medical advice and scientific information. You can also talk to your health care provider or contact Ottawa Public Health if you have questions about the vaccine.
